RUSSIA, MALAYSIA COOPERATE IN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME ON INNOVATION

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- Russia’s GenerationS Corporate Innovation Development Platform (GenerationS) and University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) have partnered on an educational programme to share expertise in strengthening the innovation ecosystem, with a focus on advancing technology transfer and fostering entrepreneurship.

In a statement to Bernama Thursday, GenerationS, a Russian state business accelerator that supports startups and develops internal entrepreneurship and innovation in corporations since 2013, said the educational programme “Effective Management of Innovation Infrastructure: The Successful Experience of Malaysia” was held in Kuala Lumpur from October 28 to 30.

“The educational programme is focused on the implementation of national objectives in the field of strengthening business relations between participants in the technological ecosystems of both countries, solving strategic tasks of federal programmes.

“The programme also serve as the platform for university technology entrepreneurship, advanced engineering schools, as well as understanding effective ways to commercialise student startups and university developments,” the statement read.

The programme is supported by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Malaysia's Ministry of Higher Education, and leading organisations including Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology And Innovation (MRANTI), Malaysia’s  Cradle Fund, and the largest Malaysian oil and gas company, Petronas.

GenerationS Corporate Innovation Development Platform Managing Director Ekaterina Petrova said the development of the Russia-ASEAN dialogue partnership is one of the priorities for the development of Russia's foreign economic policy.

“Malaysia's experience is appreciated in the global innovation ecosystem – the country holds high positions in the Global Innovation Index ranking among innovative economies in the world and continues to increase its potential in this direction.

“GenerationS actively receives requests from both sides to study each other's infrastructure and get acquainted with local universities, foundations, large corporations: UTM, MRANTI, Cradle Fund and others,” she said.

According to Petrova, such international programmes for the exchange of experience in the management of the innovation ecosystem, the development of technology transfer and entrepreneurship are supported at the state level of both countries.

The statement added that early this month during the Third Meeting of the joint Russian-Malaysian Commission on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation in St Petersburg, Russia, representatives of both countries outlined the vector of cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, industry, energy, transport, culture and tourism.

Other topics of discussion include joint development in the field of science and education, and cooperation in the field of innovation.
