INDONESIA

 

1.THOMAS LEMBONG’S ARREST RAISES EYEBROWS -- THE JAKARTA POST

The arrest of former trade minister Thomas Lembong for offenses he allegedly committed nearly a decade ago has raised a number of questions, including suggestions the investigation could have deep political underpinnings.

 

2.93 ROHINGYA REFUGEES ARRIVE IN ACEH WITH SIX DECEASED COMPANIONS -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Ninety-three Rohingya refugees arrived illegally on the coast of Aceh early Thursday, bringing with them six deceased individuals, local authorities reported. The refugees were found stranded on the coast of East Aceh’s Madat District, where the bodies of six individuals were laid on the ground, covered with sarongs.

 

CAMBODIA 

 

1.CAMBODIA, AND UKRAINE DISCUSS BILATERAL TIES  -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE             Both countries discussed the possibility of reaching a bilateral agreement on mutual investment promotion and protection. Discussions touched on Cambodian law on investment and related regulations, while Ukraine highlighted its agricultural technology sector, especially fertiliser and animal feed production. 

 

2. MINISTRY SAYS CAMBODIA SAFE DESTINATION FOR TOURISTS -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE 

The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism briefed South Korean diplomats and the business community to clear the air on the Kingdom’s safety and security. This follows after a Korean television station alleged that Korean citizens were subjected to illegal detention and abuse in Cambodia. 

 

 

LAOS

 

1.VIENTIANE AIRPORT TO UNDERGO UPGRADING -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

Laos and the Japan International Cooperation Agency signed an agreement to upgrade the Vientiane International Airport. The project, estimated at RM86 million, will include expanding the international passenger terminal, rehabilitating the taxiway and apron pavement, and installing a new airfield lighting system.

 

2.LAOS-CAMBODIA DISCUSS TOURISM DEVELOPMENT -- VIENTIANE TIMES

During the third Cambodia-Laos Joint Tourism Working Group, both parties discussed cooperation in key areas: travel facilitation, border crossing, human resources development, capacity building, marketing, and developing tourism products and linkages.

 

 

MYANMAR

 

1. MYANMAR EXPECTS BOUNTIFUL FISHING HARVEST — THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

This year's fishing season is expected to bring a high yield that will boost the incomes of fishermen and fishing vessel operators. About 3,000 offshore and 20,000 inshore fishing vessels ply Myanmar’s coastal waters, which bring bountiful catches of fish and shrimp. 

 

 

2. MYANMAR-RUSSIA TO DEEPEN BUSINESS TIES — THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR  

Trade representatives from both countries discussed managing environmental projects, waste management and establishing direct business links between the Russia-Myanmar Business Council and Myanmar’s public agencies. Agriculture, tourism and the Thilawa Special Economic Zone were also featured in their talks. 

 

 

VIETNAM

 

1.TYPHOON KONG-REY FORCES VIETNAMESE AIRLINES TO RESCHEDULE FLIGHTS - - VIETNAM NEWS

Vietnamese airlines have rescheduled their flights between Vietnam and Taiwan on 31 October and 1 November after  Typhoon Kong-rey hit Taiwan's east coast on Thursday. Airlines have said adverse weather conditions and passenger safety for the time adjustment.

 

 

2.ASEAN MILITARY INTELLIGENCE MEET IN HANOI - - VIETNAM NEWS

The first ASEAN Military Intelligence Community Leaders' Conference held in Hanoi on Thursday discussed emerging security issues and maintaining ASEAN's central role. The conference unanimously approved the standard operating procedures and launched the  ASEAN Military Intelligence Community.

 

SINGAPORE

 

1.DEFICIT FOR PUBLIC BUS OPERATIONS NARROWS TO $852M, LOWEST IN 7 YEARS -- THE STRAITS TIMES

The annual deficit incurred by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to keep public bus services here running has narrowed to a seven-year low of $852 million.

 

2.LEE HSIEN YANG TURNING 'PERSONAL VENDETTA' INTO INTERNATIONAL SMEAR CAMPAIGN: SINGAPORE GOVERNMENT -- CNA

Mr Lee Hsien Yang is turning a “personal vendetta” into an international smear campaign “against his father, his family and his country", said the Singapore government on Thursday (Oct 31) after the son of the country's founding prime minister gave another media interview - the second in slightly over a week - criticising it.

1. BANGKOK'S MONTHLY GARBAGE COLLECTION FEE TRIPLES TO 60 BAHT -- THE NATION

Bangkokians will soon need to shell out 60 baht per month for garbage collection instead of 20 baht now that the Bangkok Metropolitan Council (BMC) has approved a long overdue hike.

 

2. MINISTRY PREDICTS 2.7% GROWTH THIS YEAR -- BANGKOK POST

The Finance Ministry's Fiscal Policy Office (FPO) forecasts Thai GDP growth of 2.7% this year and 3% in 2025.
