The remark follows President Prabowo Subianto’s recent assertion that “partnerships are better than conflicts,” amid fears Indonesia could back China’s broad claims in the South China Sea over other Southeast Asian jurisdictions.

In the latest cabinet reshuffle, the government has appointed Lao People's Revolutionary Party’s Head of the Central Committee for External Relations, Thongsavanh Phomvihane as the new foreign minister. The party’s National Assembly’s Standing Committee approved the reshuffle at its extraordinary meeting last week. 

 

2. FIVE MILLION VISITORS VACATIONED IN LAOS THIS YEAR -- VIENTIANE TIMES

Over five million local and foreign tourists vacationed in the country during the Visit Laos Year 2024      until today. Laos earned about RM4.3 billion in tourist revenue. Tourism boomed this year due to promotions and the Laos-China Railway facilitating travel.

About 4,500 local and foreign gem merchants will be participating at the Mid-Year Gems Emporium being held at Nay Pyi Taw from 18 to 27 November. Pearls, gems and jade will be sold in an open market system at the exhibition that is being held since 1964.

Myanmar’s favourite ancient sport  “chinlone” or cane ball, which can be traced back 1,500 years ago continues to be the nation’s signature sport. A group of six or a single player control the cane ball in a circle using various parts of the body. 

 

VIETNAM

Ahead of the forthcoming Lunar New Year, the Authority of Information Security warned about fraud schemes targeting bank transactions and a surge in sophisticated cybercrime. Fraudulent online medicine and insurance sales, airline ticket and credit card fraud scams are becoming prevalent.

 

2. VIETNAM-LAOS-CAMBODIA CONDUCT SEARCH, RESCUE DRILL -- VIETNAM NEWS  

Neighbouring Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia conducted joint search and rescue exercises to strengthen cooperation between the nations’ armies and to be ready to roll out emergency humanitarian support  during natural disasters. About 700 soldiers participated in the exercise held in Cambodia.
