17/12/2024 05:29 PM

WASHINGTON, Dec 17 (Bernama-dpa) -- US President-elect Donald Trump has announced investments in projects in the United States by the Japanese technology group SoftBank totalling US$100 billion, reported German newsa agency (dpa).

The investment should create 100,000 jobs in the US, said SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son during a joint appearance with Trump at the latter's Mar-a-Lago estate in the US state of Florida. The money is to be paid over the next four years.

This "historic investment" is a demonstration of confidence in America's future, Trump said. It would, he said, "help ensure that artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and other industries of tomorrow are built, created and grown right here in the USA".

During the appearance, Trump also tried to persuade the Japanese technology investor to double his investments to US$200 billion. The latter said he would try. SoftBank pledged US$50 billion in investments after Trump's first election victory in 2016.
