1. NORTH-SOUTH LINE MRT SERVICES DELAYED DUE TO ENGINEERING VEHICLE FAULT -- THE STRAITS TIMES

Train commuters travelling between Ang Mo Kio and Jurong East will have their journeys delayed due to a faulty engineering vehicle on the North-South Line on the morning of Feb 7.

1. INDONESIA TO BUILD THREE SOLAR POWER PLANTS -- JAKARTA GLOBE

Indonesia is set to begin the construction of three solar power plants in East Java, West Java, and West Sumatra, with a combined capacity of 220 megawatt-peak (MWp), a senior official announced on Thursday.

President Prabowo Subianto’s backers in the House of Representatives face fresh allegations of legislative overreach for revising internal rules that bestow on them the authority to dismiss public officials as they see fit, blurring the lines between legislative and executive power.

 

CAMBODIA 

1. GOVT PLANS 5G SERVICES FOR THE KINGDOM -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE

Prime Minister Hun Manet has asked the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications to prepare a master plan for implementing 5G mobile phone service across the Kingdom. Cambodia currently relies on 4G services, covering some 82 per cent of the territory.

 

2. PM WANTS STERN ACTIONS TO TACKLE ONLINE CRIMES -- FRESH NEWS

Prime Minister Hun Manet urged for stern measures to combat online fraud and human trafficking by establishing a high-level committee. He said online frauds are threatening social security and tarnishing Cambodia’s national image, therefore stronger enforcement measures are needed.

1. BUSTING CORRUPTION AS CASES MOUNT -- VIENTIANE TIMES

The government is stern in eliminating corruption after investigations revealed heavy financial losses in 2024. Authorities revealed that 208 individuals were implicated in graft cases, 40 were prosecuted, 39 were detained and 168 faced administrative discipline, including two foreigners.

 

2. HIGHER TARGET FOR FOREIGN TOURIST ARRIVAL -- VIENTIANE TIMES

Laos aims to attract over 4.3 million foreign tourists this year. The target surpasses the 4.1 million foreigners last year who generated RM4.42 billion (US$1 billion) in revenue. Domestic tourists are expected to hit 4.1 million this year. 

 

MYANMAR

1. PROMOTING INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT PLANS -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

The Industrial Development Commission announced it will implement its 16-point roadmap to develop local industries to strengthen the economy. Promotion of the local manufacturing industry, ensuring domestic consumption, encouraging exports and producing quality and value-added products will be priority. 

 

2. FUEL OIL, PALM OIL PRICES DROP AS SUPPLY STABILISES -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR

The supply of fuel oil and palm oil is now stable and prices have dropped as tankers arrive on time at main terminals. Six oil tankers have arrived at the Thilawa oil terminal and three ships are at the seaport with the cargo.
