13/02/2025 05:37 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- Young Malaysian women can experience being a diplomat through the ‘High Commissioner for a Day’ programme organised by the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with International Women’s Day and Commonwealth Day on March 8 and 11 respectively.

The British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur in a statement said the programme, which enters its second year now, offers two winners the unique opportunity to “head” a diplomatic mission for two days, lead meetings, and getting involved in a wide range of diplomatic engagements.

Applicants must be Malaysian women residing in Malaysia, between the ages of 18 and 25.

“Interested participants are required to submit a one-minute video answering the question, "If you were High Commissioner in a Commonwealth country, what issue would you champion and why?",” the statement read.

According to the High Commission, the entry video must be posted on either Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn with the hashtag #HCforADayMY and the tag @UKinMalaysia.

It can also be submitted by sending the video link to UKinMalaysia@fcdo.gov.uk, it added.

Deadline for entries is Feb 19, and each individual is only permitted to submit one entry.

Acting British High Commissioner to Malaysia, David Wallace said High Commissioner for a Day campaign is back after an overwhelming response last year.

“We started this programme last year to empower girls, engage young leaders and provide a money-can’t-buy experience to participate in the world of diplomacy. We want to give aspiring women leaders a platform to advocate for the cause of your choice.”

Last year’s programme was won by Devana Zamain and Aqila Alya.
