WASHINGTON, Feb 16 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Former US vice president Kamala Harris, who lost to Donald Trump in the November 2024 presidential election, began asking voters for donations to fight the policies of the current US leader and strengthen the Democratic Party, according to the text of her appeal seen by Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
"Hi there. It's Kamala. I'm reaching out to respectfully ask you to make a US$10 contribution to the Democratic National Committee today. The first two weeks of the Trump administration have shown how critical it is that we have a strong Democratic Party," Harris's appeal says.
The former vice president emphasised that Democrats now needed funds to organise the fight against "Republican attacks" on various programmes that millions of Americans relied on, as well as to try to regain control of the House of Representatives and the Senate in the next midterm elections to Congress in 2026.
"It will take all of us to get it done," Harris said.
According to a poll conducted in February by the sociological company Rasmussen Reports, the majority of American voters believe that cooperation with US President Donald Trump is in the interests of the Democratic Party.
Earlier, the Axios portal reported that, against the backdrop of the actions of the Trump administration, lawmakers from the Democratic Party are receiving a record number of calls from their angry constituents who believe that Democrats are not doing enough to confront the White House.
Bloomberg reported, citing a senior Republican member of the US House of Representatives, that the attitude of Republican congressmen to Trump's decrees was comparable to the attitude to the Holy Scripture. It was noted that Trump had managed not only to seize powers that normally fall to Congress, such as oversight of government spending but also to empower his most prominent adviser, Elon Musk, to fire federal employees. Nevertheless, the publication noted that Republican lawmakers were seeking to avoid contradicting Trump on almost anything.
