UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT ARRIVES IN SAUDI ARABIA FOR TALKS WITH CROWN PRINCE

11/03/2025 12:59 AM

KYIV, March 11 (Bernama-dpa) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Saudi Arabia for discussions on a potential peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, German news agency (dpa) reported.

The Ukrainian leader landed on Monday in the coastal city of Jeddah, on the Red Sea, the Ukrainian state foreign broadcaster Freedom confirmed on Telegram.

During his one-day visit, he is scheduled to meet with Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman.

On Tuesday, a Ukrainian delegation led by Zelensky's Chancellery Chief Andrii Yermak, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Defence Minister Rustem Umerov will remain in Saudi Arabia for talks with a US delegation headed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Zelensky will not participate in the negotiations. However, he stated on Sunday that Kyiv is hopeful for progress that could bring peace closer and ensure the continuation of United States (US) support.

Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s invasion with Western assistance.

Recently, the US paused its support and restricted intelligence-sharing with Ukraine following a contentious February 28 discussion at the White House between Zelensky, US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

Trump has urged Kyiv to pursue a swift peace agreement but has refrained from exerting additional pressure on Moscow.
