RAMALLAH, March 15 (Bernama-WAFA) -- Palestine reaffirmed that a political horizon must be based on the two-state solution, which is based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, as the only viable path to achieving peace, stability, and security for all in the region.
According to the Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA), Palestinian Presidency Spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said this in response to the statement issued on Friday by the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7).
Abu Rudeineh emphasised that this solution must lead to the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Palestine also stressed that the immediate priority is securing a ceasefire, ensuring the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid and assuming full responsibility in the Gaza Strip.
It further emphasised the necessity of Israel’s complete withdrawal from Gaza, the implementation of a reconstruction plan without the displacement of Palestinians, the establishment of a comprehensive truce in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the cessation of unilateral actions that violate international law.
These steps, it asserted, are essential to de-escalation and the realisation of a political horizon based on international legitimacy.
Palestine stressed the importance of working toward this goal in coordination with the United States and Arab, European and international parties, while providing an opportunity for the efforts of the Arab and Islamic Committee and the Global Coalition to implement the two-state solution.
It also underscored the need to exert efforts to convene the International Peace Conference in New York next June, aiming to achieve security and stability for all in the region.
The G7 foreign ministers did not mention a two-state solution in their final statement on Friday, omitting language that had previously underscored its importance.
Instead, they emphasised the need for a "political horizon for the Palestinian people." The statement also reaffirmed their support for the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza and called for a lasting ceasefire.
