UNRWA OPENS 130 TEMPORARY EDUCATION CENTRES IN GAZA

15/03/2025 09:55 PM

RAMALLAH, March 15 (Bernama-WAFA) -- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced that it has opened 130 temporary education centres in Gaza, enabling direct learning for approximately 47,000 children across the Gaza Strip, the Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.

This came in a statement posted by UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini on his X account on Saturday, highlighting the agency's role in providing direct learning services to children in Gaza, who have faced killing and displacement over nearly 16 months of genocidal warfare perpetrated by Israel.

Lazzarini emphasised that UNRWA remains the largest provider of emergency learning and psychosocial support services in Gaza.

He stressed that "education restores some hope to the children of Gaza, helping them recover," noting its role in overcoming "the unspeakable traumas that children are experiencing."

He added, "We have a long way to go to encourage more and more children to learn."

The UN official went on to say, "The challenges in Gaza are enormous, and there is no time to waste. Our goal is to avoid a lost generation of Palestinian children."
