KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) – Turkiye has reiterated its call for stronger and more effective international institutions to uphold justice, peace and order amid growing global and regional crises.
Speaking at a forum titled A Fairer World is Possible here on Friday, Turkish Ambassador to Malaysia Emir Salim Yuksel said international bodies established after the Second World War are increasingly losing their effectiveness in addressing today’s conflicts and challenges.
“This forum, with the title ‘A Fairer World is Possible’, reflects a crucial crossroads of our modern era.
“In these difficult times, global efforts to find solutions are often hindered by short-sighted and biased interests,” he said in his opening remarks.
Therefore, he pointed out that there is an urgent need for the international community to take a more active role in resolving global and regional crises.
Yuksel also cited Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s long-standing stance on the issue, saying, “The world is bigger than five,” referring to the need to reform the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and promote fairer global governance.
“This call is about reinstating the fundamental principles of justice, peace, order and efficiency in international institutions. We believe a fairer world is possible,” he added.
The public forum, organised by the Directorate of Communications of the Turkish Presidency (Stratcom), was also attended by the Yemeni Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Adel Mohamed Ali Ba Hamid and the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Malaysia Irfan Davudov, among others.
The forum featured a panel of experts, including Professor at the National Defence University of Malaysia, Prof Ruhanas Harun; Assistant Professor at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Dr Mohd Iqbal Abdul Wahab; Associate Professor at Universiti Malaya, Dr Roy Anthony Rogers; Vice Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Prof Dr Mohd Azizuddin Mohd Sani; and Founding Director of Bait Al Amanah, Dr Abdul Razak Ahmad.
