LAOS 

 

1. EUROPE COMMITTED IN SUPPORTING LAO GROWTH -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

The European Union initiative, Team Europe, has committed about RM3.3 billion (672 million euros) in 2025 to development projects. This will support Laos’ green and inclusive economy, human capital development and good governance.

 

2. VIENTIANE ATTRACTS MORE LOCAL, FOREIGN TOURISTS -- VIENTIANE TIMES

The national capital Vientiane attracted over 900,000 tourists in the first quarter this year - 416,232 domestic tourists and 485,825 foreign visitors. Vientiane plans to woo about two million tourists this year. The province won six prizes at the 2024 ASEAN Tourism Standards Awards.

 

 

MYANMAR

 

1.PRAISES FOR ASEAN EARTHQUAKE RESCUE TEAMS -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Minister Dr Soe lauded rescue teams from ASEAN countries — Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam — for their efforts after the March 28 earthquake. They managed to rescue eight people alive and recovered 172 bodies.

 

2. TEMPORARY COURTS TO ENSURE HEARINGS CONTINUE -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

Temporary courtrooms will be constructed to ensure continued access to public legal rights and maintain regular judicial proceedings. Some of the courts were damaged by the recent earthquake. Staff will also be relocated to assist the courts. 

 

 

THAILAND

 

1. BODIES OF THREE VICTIMS RETRIEVED FROM COLLAPSED SAO BUILDING -- THE NATION

Three bodies of victims trapped inside the collapsed State Audit Office building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district were recovered by officials during the early hours of Sunday.

 

2. CHINESE CONDO PURCHASES LIKELY DEPRESSES THIS YEAR -- BANGKOK POST

Condo transfers from Chinese buyers in Thailand are expected to remain at less than 40% of foreign transfers for the second consecutive year, as tourism from the nation softens and the recent earthquake dents confidence, according to Krungthai Compass, the research centre under Krungthai Bank.

 

 

VIETNAM

 

1 US TARIFFS WILL STIMULATE ECONOMIC RESTRUCTURING -- VIETNAMPLUS

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the United State’s (US) new tariff regime provides an opportunity for Vietnam to restructure its economy, markets, production and exports. He is confident that Vietnam will achieve eight per cent economic growth or even higher this year. 

 

2. QUEBEC EYES VIETNAM TO DIVERSIFY EXPORTS -- VIENTIANEPLUS

Quebec, a province in Canada, is eager to increase its investments in Vietnam, viewing it as strategically important for trade within the ASEAN region. Quebec has already invested in 125 projects in Vietnam and aims to diversify its markets across the region.
