BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 4 (Bernama) -- Brunei will host the 22nd ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting Responsible for Information (SOMRI) and Related Meetings for two days, starting tomorrow (May 5).
Themed ‘MAJU-Media Advancing Joint Understanding: Transforming Media's Role in Advancing Cooperation and Mutual Understanding in ASEAN’, the meeting will be held at Empire Hotel here.
The 22nd SOMRI will, among others, discuss and address emerging issues such as disinformation, misinformation, digital inclusivity and the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as well as digital transformation.
SOMRI will then be followed by the 17th Conference of ASEAN Ministers Responsible For Information (AMRI) and Related Meetings from May 7 to 9 at the same venue.
Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa will lead the delegation for SOMRI while Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching will head the Malaysian delegation at AMRI.
Also in the delegation are Information Department (Japen) Communications and Community Development Service Division director Muhammad Najmi Mustapha and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Head of International Affairs Division Norhani Mohamad Adzhar.
The delegation also includes MCMC Director II (ASEAN and Bilateral) Fatin Nabiha Ab Aziz, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Executive Editor for International News Service Mohd Shukri Ishak, as well as other high-ranking officials from the Communications Ministry and its agencies.
Besides ministers and senior officials responsible for information from ASEAN member states, the meetings will include ASEAN Plus Three, namely China, Japan and South Korea.
On the sidelines, ministers and senior officials responsible for information from ASEAN member states, ASEAN Plus Three leaders and ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn are scheduled for an audience with the Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah at Istana Nurul Iman on May 8.
