HANOI, May 5 (Bernama-VNA) -- The clearance of buildings damaged by the massive earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28 is approximately 80 per cent complete in Mandalay and about 50 per cent complete in Sagaing, Vietnam News Agency (VNA) cited the country’s state media report as saying.

The Global New Light of Myanmar cited the Myanmar Fire Brigade’s report as stating that in Mandalay, major roads affected by the earthquake have been cleared of debris to prevent obstacles and ensure the safety of commuters.

Meanwhile, in Sagaing, clean-up operations continue with the use of heavy machinery to remove debris from large structures, including Buddhist learning centres and religious buildings located on higher ground.

As of May 1, official data indicated that the 7.9-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar had left at least 3,835 people dead, more than 5,000 injured, and 105 still missing.
