LONDON, May 8 (Bernama-PA Media/dpa) – The United States and Britain have agreed on a trade deal, with US President Donald Trump saying “this should be a very big and exciting day” for the US and UK in a post on Truth Social, PA Media/dpa reported.
The US-UK trade agreement is “a full and comprehensive one” that will “cement the relationship” between the two countries “for many years to come,” Trump said.
Trump said earlier there would be developments in trade talks with a “big and highly respected country.”
Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who had been due to spend the day focusing on events to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, said he would “act in [the UK's] national interest” to “deliver security and renewal" for the UK.
Starmer is expected to say more on the deal later on Thursday, while Trump has promised a press conference at 10 am in Washington (1400 GMT).
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said: “This should be a very big and exciting day for the United States of America and the United Kingdom.”
