09/05/2025 03:22 PM

NEW YORK, May 9 (Bernama-QNA) -- Three UNRWA schools in occupied East Jerusalem have been stormed by heavily armed Israeli forces, forcing over 550 students to leave classrooms, the UN agency's Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Lazzarini posted on X the incursion was "an assault on children and education" and a "blatant disregard for international law".

"As a result, UNRWA was forced to evacuate all children across the six schools it runs in East Jerusalem," he added.

He also confirmed that one UNRWA staff member was detained.

"Now, nearly 800 girls and boys - some as young as six years old - are left in shock and trauma," Lazzarani added.
