10/05/2025 04:23 PM

MOSCOW, May 10 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- The leaders of Germany, France, Poland and the United Kingdom (UK) arrived in Kyiv on Saturday for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer travelled to the Ukrainian capital by train.

They were welcomed by Andriy Yermak, head of the presidential office, and Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, according to local media reports.

French President Macron later shared a joint photo with Merz, Starmer and Tusk on X.

A day earlier, he reiterated his commitment to “build a lasting peace” in Ukraine.

European countries and the United States (US) have been working on a draft proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, now in its fourth year.

However, sources said the plan has yet to receive full approval, with discussions expected to continue at Saturday’s meeting in Kyiv.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed conditional support for the ceasefire proposal.

However, he warned that Ukraine could use the pause to strengthen its military positions and stressed that any agreement must include a halt to Western arms supplies.
