INDONESIA WELCOMES GAZA CEASEFIRE, URGES SWIFT HUMANITARIAN ACCESS

10/10/2025 01:35 PM

JAKARTA, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Indonesia has welcomed the first phase of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the permanent end to hostilities, its Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Friday.

Jakarta expressed appreciation for mediation efforts by the United States, Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye, and urged all parties to implement all provisions of the ceasefire agreement in good faith.

“Indonesia hopes that humanitarian access will be immediately and widely opened,” the ministry said in a post on X, adding that the country stood ready to participate actively in supporting the reconstruction process in Gaza.

The statement also called on the international community to seize the momentum to restart the peace process in Palestine based on the two-state solution, and to help realise an independent and sovereign State of Palestine in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions and international law.

United States President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of a US proposed Gaza peace plan.

The 20-point proposal, unveiled on Sept 29, includes a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the disarmament of Hamas.

Israeli strikes since October 2023 have killed nearly 67,200 Palestinians in the territory, most of them women and children.
