JAKARTA, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Indonesia is closely monitoring the aftermath of a mass escape from the KK Park complex in Myawaddy, Kayin state, Myanmar,  after more than 300 foreign nationals including about 75 Indonesians, reportedly fled the complex, which is linked to online scams and gambling, on Wednesday morning.

The Indonesian Embassy in Yangon in a statement on Thursday, citing local media and field sources, said the mass escape followed preparations by the Myanmar military, known as the Tatmadaw, to raid the area.

“Some Indonesians remain inside the complex, while others have moved towards the surrounding areas of Myawaddy and Shwe Kokko in search of safety,” the embassy said.

As of Wednesday evening, Thai authorities reported that around 20 Indonesians had crossed the Moei River into Thailand, and their identities and conditions were currently being verified by local authorities in Mae Sot.

The embassy said it is coordinating with its Bangkok counterpart, local Myanmar authorities and humanitarian groups to ensure safe evacuation routes.
