President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Sunday said the admission of Timor-Leste as a full member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) demonstrates the bloc’s strengthened commitment to regional unity and cooperation.

“Today marks a historic milestone for Southeast Asia as we officially welcome Timor-Leste into the ASEAN family. Its admission reflects our region’s collective commitment to unity, cooperation, and shared prosperity,” Marcos said in a statement.

 

2. PHILIPPINES, CANADA SET TO LAUNCH FTA TALKS, TARGET COMPLETION BY 2026 -- PNA

The Philippines and Canada are set to launch negotiations for a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA), with both countries targeting completion by 2026.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney reached the agreement during a bilateral meeting on Sunday, held on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings.
