FLOOD AND LANDSLIDE LEAVE 15 MISSING IN INDONESIA’S HIGHLAND PAPUA

03/11/2025 06:23 PM

JAKARTA, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Fifteen people went missing after being swept away while crossing the Panpan river in Dal district, Nduga regency, in Indonesia’s Highland Papua region, according to police.

The victims, mostly students, had finished playing volleyball on Saturday when they ignored warnings from military personnel not to cross the river due to heavy rain.

“They continued their journey, but a landslide and flash flood struck, leaving 15 people missing,” Nduga Police Chief Alredo Agustinus Rumbiak told Antara.

Search efforts by residents are ongoing along the riverbanks, while authorities warned that heavy rain continues in the area and urged caution when crossing rivers during the rainy season.
