JAKARTA, Nov 24 (Bernama) – The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta said on Monday that there have been no reports of Malaysians affected by the eruption of Mount Semeru on the border of Lumajang and Malang Regencies in East Java Province.

The embassy also advised those planning to travel to major cities or districts near Mount Semeru to monitor the latest developments through the mass media.

“Malaysian citizens should check their travel status with the airlines in the event of any sudden changes involving the airspace situation,” the embassy said in the statement.

The embassy is continuing to closely monitor the developments of Mount Semeru, which erupted on November 19.

According to the embassy, Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) is focusing relief efforts in three affected villages, namely Supiturang and Oro-Oro Ombo in the Pronojiwo district, and Penanggal in the Candipuro district.

The Geological Agency of Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has maintained the alert status at Level IV, the highest level, and still anticipates the possibility of further eruptions.

“The Lumajang Regency Government had earlier declared a seven-day state of emergency from November 19 to 26,” the embassy added.
