FLOOD IN HATYAI : 38 MALAYSIAN STUDENTS, LECTURERS SUCCESSFULLY EVACUATED -- WISMA PUTRA

28/11/2025 11:27 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- Thirty-eight Malaysian university students and lecturers who were stranded in Hatyai, Thailand, following severe floods have been successfully evacuated in a coordinated rescue operation involving Malaysian and Thai authorities.

In a statement today, the Foreign Ministry said a large-scale rescue operation was carried out between 8 am and 1 pm on Thursday (Nov 27) to evacuate stranded Malaysians, with the assistance of the Royal Thai Army.

“With rainfall subsiding, floodwaters receded significantly yesterday, Nov 27, 2025, allowing heavy vehicles to enter most areas except for a few locations where water levels remain high,” read the statement.

The ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra, said that overall, around 1,459 Malaysians were evacuated from more than 25 hotels yesterday and were safely transferred to the Bukit Kayu Hitam (BKH) border crossing.

It said fewer than 300 Malaysians remain stranded in several locations, while two identified hotels where Malaysians were staying are still inaccessible due to high water levels, adding that rescue operations will continue today (Nov 28) until all individuals have been accounted for.

Wisma Putra expressed hope that today’s operations would complete the remaining evacuations, though efforts will continue until it is confirmed that all affected Malaysians have been safely assisted.

The ministry also again urges Malaysians who have yet to register their presence or whose whereabouts remain unclear to contact the Consulate General in Songkhla or the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok immediately to ensure timely assistance.

For consular assistance, Malaysians may contact the Foreign Ministry’s operations room in Putrajaya at +603-8887 4570 or via e-mail at dutyofficer@kln.gov.my.

The Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok can be reached at +66-87-028-4659 or +66-2340-5721, while e-mails may be directed to mwbangkok@kln.gov.my.

Furthermore, the Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla is contactable at +(6674) 316274 or +(6681) 9901930, with additional lines available at +(6674) 324004 or 312353. E-mails may be sent to mwsongkhla@kln.gov.my.
