KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- Airwallex, a leading global financial platform for modern businesses, has raised US$330 million in its Series G funding round, bringing its valuation to US$8 billion – an increase of around 30 per cent since its Series F funding six months ago.
The new investment will continue to drive Airwallex’s growth in the United States (US) and other key global markets, while supporting increased hiring and product development in the field of AI.
“We believe the future of global banking will be borderless, real-time, and intelligent,” said Jack Zhang, Co-founder and CEO of Airwallex, in a statement on Monday.
“Traditional providers no longer match the way modern businesses operate, and our investors understand that we are now at the forefront of defining this category.
“We are building a modern alternative: a single platform that powers global banking, payments, billing, treasury, and expenses through proprietary financial infrastructure.
“This funding will accelerate our growth, strengthen our technical leadership, and reinforce our presence in the US and other key markets,” he added.
The Series G round was led by Addition, with participation from T. Rowe Price, Activant, Lingotto, Robinhood Ventures, and TIAA Ventures.
Meanwhile, Lee Fixel from Addition said Airwallex is reshaping the global business banking landscape.
“Traditional financial systems are not designed for borderless businesses, and Airwallex is uniquely positioned to address this challenge.
“With global financial infrastructure, software, and AI capabilities, the company is also on a very strong path to lead the future of global business banking,” he said.
Alongside this funding round, Airwallex announced the opening of its second global headquarters in San Francisco, housing its core product, engineering, strategic partnerships, and go-to-market teams in the global AI innovation and talent hub.
The US market is a key focus in Airwallex’s global strategy.
Airwallex plans to double its workforce in the US to over 400 employees within the next 12 months and will also double its office space in San Francisco to support this expansion.
Founded in Australia in 2015, Airwallex now has more than 2,000 employees worldwide and plans to grow by over 50 per cent by the end of 2026.
This growth will continue to drive investments in infrastructure and global partnerships.
Airwallex is developing a dedicated group of AI agents to execute real financial workflows, laying the foundation for fully autonomous finance departments.
The first product launched is a network of AI agents within the Airwallex expense management platform.
The currently available ‘Expense Submission Agent’ collects receipts from multiple sources, automatically matches them to transactions, categorises expenses, and completes all necessary information for smooth submissions.
Meanwhile, the ‘Expense Policy Agent,’ set to launch in the coming weeks, will validate receipts, check submission compliance against company policies, and flag any exceptions for manual review before final approval.
More than 200,000 companies worldwide, ranging from startups to public enterprises, use Airwallex to manage their global banking and financial operations or to build and monetise their own financial products using Airwallex infrastructure.
Airwallex holds 80 licenses across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region, forming one of the world’s most comprehensive financial infrastructures.
This regulated framework powers Airwallex products on a global scale, including payment acceptance, billing, global accounts, corporate cards, and expense management.
The company is headquartered in both San Francisco and Singapore, with over 2,000 employees across 26 offices.
