MALAYSIAN CONSULATE GENERAL IN MEDAN DISTRIBUTES FLOOD AID IN ACEH TAMIANG

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Consulate General in Medan on Wednesday launched its second Flood Disaster Care Programme (P2B2) in Aceh Tamiang, Indonesia with the cooperation of Mercy Malaysia, the Malaysian diaspora in Medan, and the National Association of Malaysian Students in Indonesia (PKPMI).

The consulate general informed that supplies of food, medicines, and basic necessities have been distributed to more than 1,000 families affected by the flood in Kampung Dato' Desa Tanjung Manchang and Dusun Alur Hitam, located some 135 km from Medan.

“The aid that has been distributed also include basic food supplies, prayer kits such as prayer mats and garment, and personal care items such as soaps, sanitary pads, toothbrushes, and toothpastes,” it said in a statement.

Aceh Tamiang Regent, Inspector General Armia Pahmi, who was on hand to receive the arrival of the Malaysian team, expressed his gratitude for the execution of the aid mission and indicated his full support for the humanitarian initiative by the Malaysian government.

The consulate general also conveyed condolences, prayers, and expressions of solidarity from the Malaysian people to all the people of Indonesia affected by the tragedy, in particular the people of Aceh Tamiang.

Meanwhile, the consulate general also informed that during the course of conducting the mission, it managed to track down two Malaysian citizens who were stranded in Aceh Tamiang since Nov 27 Nov.

“Both are in good health and reportedly will be return home soon,” it added.
