PHNOM PENH, Jan 1 (Bernama) -- The Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign in Laos kicked off in style this morning, with the first group of Kuala Lumpur-bound tourists being given surprises in the forms of gifts and a special send-off ceremony.
Tourism Malaysia Vientiane, along with the Embassy of Malaysia in the capital, created a cordial and inviting atmosphere for departing tourists.
The promotional send-off event for AirAsia flight AK553 was held at the Wattay International Airport, the main gateway for tourists in Vientiane.
On New Year’s Day, 170 passengers departed for Kuala Lumpur to enjoy the diverse tourism offerings of Malaysia.
“To mark the beginning of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, we distributed commemorative goody bags and tourism information to all passengers.
“This initiative aims to strengthen travel ties and invite Laotian visitors and international visitors to explore Malaysia's diverse cultural and natural attractions, and enjoy many activities throughout the year,” Vientiane-based Tourism Malaysia Laos Marketing Manager Sordaly Chanthavong told Bernama.
She said Tourism Malaysia will continue to intensify promotional campaigns in various locations, including Luang Prabang and Champasak, using influencers and social media platforms. Malaysia is targeting to woo about 30,000 Laotians this year.
Tourism Malaysia has launched major campaigns targetting 43 million international visitors for VM2026.
