COP31 CLIMATE SUMMIT IN ANTALYA SCHEDULED FOR NOV 9-20 - MINISTRY

02/01/2026 04:48 PM

ISTANBUL, Jan 2 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- The UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) is scheduled for November 9-20, 2026, the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

The climate summit will take place in Antalya after Australia ceded the hosting rights to Turkiye and withdrew its co-chairmanship.

"COP31 will be held in Antalya from November 9-20, 2026. Turkiye will become the centre of climate diplomacy," the ministry said on Thursday.

Turkish Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, has been appointed president of the conference, the ministry noted.

Disputes between Turkiye and Australia, which planned to host the summit, have been ongoing for a long time. At the same time, Germany, as the country where the UN climate office is located, was obliged to intervene and, if there was no compromise, hold a summit in Bonn.
