COLOMBO, Jan 10 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka has recorded 2,170 dengue cases during the first nine days of 2026, health officials said on Saturday, reported Xinhua.
Prashila Samaraweera, community medical specialist of the National Dengue Control Unit, told journalists that a "high-risk dengue situation" has been identified across 41 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions.
She said health teams have intensified surveillance and mosquito-control operations in these areas.
Samaraweera added that school principals and local health authorities have been instructed to carry out dengue-control programmes ahead of this year's Advanced Level examinations and before schools reopen.
Sri Lanka reported more than 50,000 dengue cases in 2025, according to official data.
