LA PAZ, Jan 13 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- At least 11 members of a family were killed and three others injured on Monday when a minibus crashed on a highway in eastern Bolivia, police reported.
Local media, reported Xinhua, said the accident occurred on the Bioceanic Highway, along the stretch between the towns of Puerto Suarez and Puerto Quijarro in the Santa Cruz department.
According to Santa Cruz's traffic director, Martin Arequipa, preliminary investigation suggests that the vehicle, returning from a family party, was driven by a minor who was speeding. The minibus lost control and crashed into the side of the road.
Rolando Rodriguez, police chief of Puerto Quijarro, said that all the victims were members of the same family, and the three injured were taken to the hospital.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and are expected to release an official report soon.
