UNITY AMONG ISLAMIC NATIONS CRUCIAL TO HALT OPPRESSION OF MARGINALISED UMMAH -- WFPIST

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- Unity among Islamic nations is crucial to uphold justice and put an end to oppression against marginalised Muslim communities, including in Palestine, according to a former member of Iran’s Islamic Consultative Council.

Chairman of the Supreme Council of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) Mohammad Eshagh Madani said the failure to maintain unity has created space for external interference and manipulation, with outside parties exploiting sectarian differences, ideological divisions and political interests within the Islamic world.

“The Islamic world possesses vast resources, a large population, and extensive educational and religious institutions, yet internal divisions have weakened the ummah’s standing at the global level,” he said through an interpreter at a press conference on global Muslim unity here on Thursday.

He stressed that unity is a clear injunction in the Quran and urged Muslims to seek information from credible sources, intensify scholarly dialogue, and strengthen cooperation among different schools of thought and nations to build collective strength.

Meanwhile, Madani praised Malaysia as a model of harmony in diversity, particularly in safeguarding social unity and in the strong public support shown by its people for the Palestinian cause.

He also rejected claims of sectarian-based oppression in Iran, describing them as propaganda aimed at undermining unity within the Muslim ummah.

WFPIST is an Iran-based organisation established in Tehran in 1990 to promote peace, unity and mutual understanding among the various schools of thought and traditions within Islam.
