INDONESIA SECURES CHINA EXPORT APPROVAL FOR 40 FISH PROCESSING UNITS

01/02/2026 12:25 PM

JAKARTA, Feb 1 (Bernama) -- Indonesia has secured export approval from China for 40 additional fish Processing Units (UPI), further expanding market access for the country's fishery products, according to the Indonesian Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry.

The ministry's head of Marine and Fisheries Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency, Ishartini, said the latest approval follows Indonesia's bilateral agreement with China on the equivalency of fishery product quality assurance systems under a Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA).

She said the agreement enables Indonesia to conduct negotiations to convince Chinese authorities to approve new approval numbers for UPIs.

"This marks a fresh boost for Indonesia's fisheries sector and opens opportunities to diversify export products, particularly ahead of the 2026 Chinese New Year," she said in a statement on Saturday.

She noted that Indonesia currently exports 1,080 types of fishery commodities to China.

In 2025, export volume reached 491,528 tonnes valued at US$1.04 billion.

The 10 main export commodities comprise frozen squid, Eucheuma cottonii seaweed, Gracilaria seaweed, frozen ribbon fish, and processed Eucheuma cottonii. Other key products include dried Eucheuma cottonii seaweed, dried Gracilaria seaweed, Eucheuma spinosum, frozen leather jacket fish, and frozen croaker fish.
