25/02/2026 04:00 PM

PARIS, Feb 25 (Bernama-dpa) -- The director of the renowned Louvre museum in Paris resigned on Tuesday, following a massive heist in October that resulted in the theft of some €88 million (US$102 million) in precious jewels, German Press Agency (dpa) reported.

The Élysée Palace, the official residence and workplace of French President Emmanual Macron, said the director, Laurence des Cars, offered her resignation and Macron accepted it.

The spectacular heist took place in broad daylight on a Sunday morning.

The jewellery stolen was of "invaluable cultural and historical significance" beyond its market value, the French ministries of culture and interior said at the time.
