MALAYSIAN YOUTHS INVITED TO JOIN AFS FULLY FUNDED GLOBAL STEM PROGRAMME

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysian teenagers aged 15 to 16 with keen interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), sustainability and global skills are invited to apply for the AFS Global STEM Innovators programme.

AFS Intercultural Malaysia Foundation (Yayasan AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia) in a statement said 50 scholarships are now open for application to lower income (B40) students age 15 to 16, born between Jan 1, 2010 and April 30, 2011.

The six-week fully sponsored exchange programme is sponsored by British Petroleum (bp) in collaboration with AFS Intercultural Programmes.

The programme begins with five weeks of hands-on virtual exchange curriculum from May 31 to June 27, followed by a week-long in-person workshop in Kuala Lumpur and Kuantan from July 4 to 10.

“Scholars from around Malaysia will broaden their understanding of STEM and sustainability, explore innovations and real-world case studies – including opportunities to meet with STEM industry leaders and experts – and participate in immersive field trips and site visits,” the statement read.

Upon completion of the programme, scholars will earn the AFS Global Competence Certificate and are invited to join the AFS Global STEM Alumni Community, which offers mentorship and networking opportunities, the statement added.

The programme will be held locally, with the scholarship covering travel expenses from participants’ hometowns to Kuala Lumpur and Kuantan, as well as accommodation and meals throughout the workshop.

No fees will be imposed on selected participants, the statement added.

Applications close on March 15.
