NO RISE IN RADIATION LEVELS IN IRAN’S NEIGHBOURS – IAEA

02/03/2026 09:59 PM

MOSCOW, March 2 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- No excess radiation levels have been recorded in Iran's neighbouring countries, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said on Monday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

"The IAEA’s Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) is in operation, with a dedicated team collecting information and assessing the situation while bearing in mind limitations in communications caused by the conflict.”

“The regional safety monitoring network has been put on alert and is liaising with us continuously. So far, no elevation of radiation levels above the usual background levels has been detected in countries bordering Iran," Grossi said in an introductory statement to the Board of Governors.

Currently, the agency has no signs that any nuclear facilities in Iran, including the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, the Tehran Research Reactor or other nuclear fuel cycle facilities were damaged, Grossi said.

“The  IAEA is following the military attacks in Iran and the Middle East with concern”,  Grossi said.

"Efforts to contact the Iranian nuclear regulatory authorities through the IEC continue, with no response so far. We hope this indispensable channel of communication can be reestablished as soon as possible," Grossi added.
