KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama) -- The Embassy of Malaysia in Muscat has conducted a consular visit to several hotels in the Omani capital to assist Malaysians stranded following escalating regional tensions that have disrupted air travel across the Middle East.
In a Facebook post on Monday, the embassy said the visit on March 1 was led by Chargé d’Affaires Nur Misuari Harun, accompanied by embassy officials.
The team visited several hotels in Muscat accommodating Malaysians affected by ongoing travel disruptions to assess their welfare and provide necessary assistance.
In a separate post, the embassy said following an inspection of Muscat International Airport, it observed that most airline remained closed and advised passengers not to purchase tickets directly at the airport.
The embassy advised stranded Malaysians to coordinate closely with their respective travel agents when arranging onward flights.
Passengers were also reminded to secure any required transit visas before departure to avoid further complications.
It added that the mission continues to monitor the situation closely and is working to obtain timely updates to assist affected passengers.
The disruptions came amid heightened tensions in the region after the United States (US) and Israel launched a series of strikes on targets in Iran on Saturday, killing several top Iranian leaders including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Hundreds of civilian casualties were also reported.
Iran retaliated with missile attacks on Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
