JAKARTA, March 3 (Bernama) -- A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast of North Sumatra around noon on Tuesday, with authorities confirming that there is no tsunami threat.
According to Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the quake was recorded at 11.56 am local time, with tremors felt in the surrounding areas.
The agency on its website, stated that the epicentre was located at sea at a depth of 13 kilometres (km), 61 km southeast of Sinabang, Aceh.
BMKG also advised the public to remain cautious of possible aftershocks.
Earlier, the agency said a 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck the northwestern part of Southwest Maluku Regency in Maluku in the early hours of Tuesday at 12.40 am.
