09/03/2026 01:15 PM

MOSCOW, March 8 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) — Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning the extradition of foreigners serving under contract in the Russian armed forces and those participating in combat operations alongside the Russian armed forces to other countries for criminal prosecution, according to a document published on the official portal of legal acts on Sunday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

The Bill, which amends Article 464 of the Russian Criminal Code, was submitted by the government to the lower house of the Russian parliament.

The law expands the grounds for refusing extradition for criminal prosecution or the enforcement of a sentence to include cases where the request involves a foreign citizen or a stateless person who is currently serving, or has previously served, under contract in the Russian armed forces or other Russian military units.
