NEW DELHI, March 9 (Bernama) -- Two accused in Bangladesh youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi's murder in December last year, have been arrested in India's West Bengal state.

The suspects, Faisal Karim Masud, 37, and Alamgir Hossain, 34, were detained on Saturday night, news agency PTI reported on Sunday.

"They were trying to take shelter in the border area of Bongaon with the intention of crossing back into Bangladesh," said a police statement cited in the media report.

The two accused entered India via the border state of Meghalaya, the police said.

Osman Hadi, a spokesman of the Inquilab Mancha and key figure in the student-led uprising that toppled former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in August 2024, was shot in the head on December 12 by unidentified assailants in Dhaka and died on December 18 in a Singapore hospital where he was taken for better treatment.
