JAKARTA, March 12 (Bernama) -- Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara has begun showing early progress in managing national assets and will continue to play a strategic role in strengthening the country’s economic resilience amid global uncertainty and crises, President Prabowo Subianto said.
Speaking at an event marking Danantara’s first anniversary, Prabowo said the institution reflects Indonesia’s determination to professionally manage its vast national wealth while reinforcing economic resilience and national sovereignty.
He said the current global environment is increasingly marked by uncertainty and crises, but such challenges could also create opportunities for countries that are prepared and resilient.
“Crises always produce opportunities. Crises are tests and stepping stones. The strong will survive, while those who are not strong will continue to suffer. This is the lesson of history,” he said in a statement released by the Presidential Secretariat’s Media, Press and Information Bureau (BPMI Setpres), Thursday night.
Danantara was established in February last year to consolidate and optimise the management of Indonesia’s state assets and investments, and is expected to play an increasingly important role in strengthening the country’s long-term economic resilience and development.
Prabowo expressed confidence that Indonesia’s vast natural resources provide a strong foundation for the country to navigate global challenges and maintain economic stability, and that several measures have been undertaken to realise national resilience, including food and energy self-sufficiency programmes with Danantara playing a role in them.
He said that besides playing a role in the government’s efforts to ensure national resilience and sovereignty, Danantara is proof of Indonesia’s ability to manage the country’s wealth professionally, and on par with sovereign wealth funds of other countries.
“Danantara is also proof that Indonesia, with determination and strong will, is capable of achieving great things and keeping pace with the achievements of other countries,” he said.
The president also welcomed the fund’s early performance, saying he had received reports indicating a strong improvement in its asset returns during its first year of operation.
“I received a report, and I am quite pleased. The return on assets in 2025 compared with previous years has increased by more than 300 per cent. This is quite good and proves the premise behind establishing Danantara,” he said.
Prabowo urged Danantara’s management to maintain strong governance, stressing that the institution carries the responsibility of safeguarding the nation’s wealth for future generations.
“Remember, the hopes of the entire nation rest on your shoulders. You safeguard and manage the wealth of our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren,” he said.
Meanwhile, Investment and Downstreaming Minister, who is also Danantara Chief Executive Officer, Rosan Roeslani, said Danantara is envisioned as one of the national economic growth engines, supporting the government’s ambition to achieve eight per cent economic growth while ensuring equitable distribution of development gains.
“At Danantara, we see a broader purpose, how to create eight per cent economic growth while ensuring that the benefits are distributed across all levels of Indonesian society,” he said.
