KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- Padiberas Nasional Berhad (BERNAS) is supporting local communities through its Gema Ramadan 2026 programme by distributing bubur lambuk and rice, as well as organising iftar events in Sabah, Sarawak and Selangor.
In a statement today, BERNAS said the programme involved the distribution of contributions to local communities, orphanages, mosques, suraus, tahfiz centres and security personnel, with the participation of staff and volunteers from the BERNAS Club.
“Programmes like this provide BERNAS with the opportunity to continue reaching out to the community and to recognise the contributions of various parties who play a role in the nation’s well-being.
“This initiative not only enlivens the spirit of Ramadan but also serves as a platform to strengthen ties between BERNAS, local communities and enforcement agencies,” the statement said.
The Gema Ramadan 2026 programme began on March 8 at the BERNAS warehouse area in Telipok, where 1,500 servings of bubur lambuk were distributed to communities in Kota Kinabalu, Menggatal, Sepanggar and Tuaran.
BERNAS also contributed 250 kilogrammes of rice to the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board to prepare 3,200 servings of bubur lambuk for distribution to communities in Kuching throughout Ramadan.
In Port Klang, BERNAS hosted an iftar event for 350 personnel from the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) in appreciation of their role in safeguarding the country’s borders. At the same time, 700 containers of bubur lambuk were distributed to personnel on duty around the port.
The Gema Ramadan 2026 programme concluded on March 13 at Al Bakri Mosque with various community activities, including a rewang session with mosque congregants, distribution of bubur lambuk and Aidilfitri contributions to those in need.
The event was also attended by Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Mohamad Sabu, who is Kota Raja Member of Parliament, BERNAS Chairman Rohani Abdul Karim, BERNAS Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohammad Azlan Abdullah, and members of the company’s senior management.
