NEW YORK, March 22 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Employees from the Voice of America (VOA) and their unions filed a lawsuit against US President Donald Trump's administration on Friday, claiming that the shutdown of US-funded media outlets violated their First Amendment rights, reported Xinhua.
The lawsuit, filed in US District Court in New York, names the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), its acting director Victor Morales and Special Adviser Kari Lake as defendants.
The plaintiffs, including VOA reporters, Reporters Without Borders, and a handful of unions argue that the administration's actions, which placed over 1,300 employees on leave and cut funding for several news services, were both unconstitutional and unlawful.
The complaint seeks to reverse the decision to shut down the USAGM, which funds VOA and other media outlets such as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Radio Free Asia.
