KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Karate Federation (MAKAF) president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad has confirmed that he will vie for the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) deputy president's post in the elections on April 19.
The current OCM vice-president said the decision was made after receiving support from current deputy president Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin, who will not be defending his post in the election.
“I am ready to take on the responsibility if entrusted with it. I hold firmly to the principle of serving for the development of national sports.
“If given the opportunity, I will continue striving to take Malaysian sports to greater heights,” Nur Azmi said in a statement today.
Apart from Nur Azmi, several other prominent figures have shown interest in the post, although no official confirmation has been made so far.
The election for the new OCM committee is set to be held at Wisma OCM and it is expected to be an intense affair, with several prominent names said to be eyeing key positions.
