SHB Opens First Overseas Manufacturing Facility In Johor With RM600 Mln Investment

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 17 (Bernama) – Automotive motor manufacturer SHB today opened its first overseas manufacturing facility in the Senai Airport City (SAC) Free Zone, with an investment of RM600 million.

SHB chief executive officer Carolyn Wang said the facility is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of three million wiper motor systems and 20 million seat motors, generating approximately RM1.5 billion in annual sales.

She said the site is equipped with advanced testing facilities and highly automated assembly lines, supporting production for major global original equipment manufacturers and tier-one clients such as Tesla and BMW.

“By 2030, SHB aims to double its sales to RM6 billion, with the Malaysia facility in SAC serving as a key cornerstone of this growth,” she said in a statement.

The facility will create around 200 skilled engineering jobs locally and source from approximately 100 local suppliers, reinforcing SHB’s commitment to supporting Malaysia’s manufacturing supply chain and contributing to Johor’s economic growth.

“Malaysia plays a strategic role in SHB’s global growth roadmap. By leveraging the country’s strong industrial ecosystem and talent, we are confident in delivering world-class quality and driving long-term growth in the region,” said Wang.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong said Malaysia has a great opportunity to collaborate in technological diffusion.

“We used to see ourselves as a trading nation, but today we want to see ourselves as a technology nation. We have an automated equipment technology sector, and we want to see technological diffusion and horizontal linkages within our ecosystem,” he said.

SAC chief executive officer Gan Seng Keong said the zone is a leading hub for advanced manufacturing and high-value investments located within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

“SHB’s decision to establish its first overseas facility in SAC is a strong endorsement of what SAC represents: an advanced manufacturing ecosystem and a future-ready industrial base within a strategically connected global trade hub,” he said.

SHB, also known as SHB Automotive Appliances, is a global manufacturer of automotive electric motors and electronic components, specialising in seat motors, wiper systems, and window regulators. The company is headquartered in China.
