KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24 (Bernama) -- The bilateral import and export trade between Malaysia and Guangxi, an autonomous region in southern China, has increase by 26 per cent to over US$2.05 billion (US$1=RM4.1370) last year, according to the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Its director general Yuan Huang said that as of this September, Guangxi's cumulative investment in Malaysia has reached US$1.37 billion, while Malaysia's actual investment in Guangxi is at US$216 billion.

He said the China-Malaysia Qinzhou Industrial Park and the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park have pioneered the innovative two-country, three-path model of industrial cooperation, becoming important platforms for cross-border industrial collaboration.

He added that the 3.5 million tonne integrated steel project, jointly invested by Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group and Guangxi Shenglong Metallurgical Co Ltd, has become Malaysia's largest and most diverse steel production project.

"Products made in Guangxi, such as the electric vehicles and teas are favoured by Malaysian consumers, while Malaysian products such as the crude oil, palm oil, frozen fruits and nuts are very popular in Guangxi's market," he said in his speech at the China (Guangxi) Key Industries Promotion Conference 2025 here today.

Meanwhile, Yuan said Guangxi would like to seek deeper cooperation with Malaysia in new metallic materials, high-end equipment and new energy vehicles, and jointly rebuild a modern industrial cluster that spans regions and borders.

He said both Guangxi and Malaysia already enjoyed a solid foundation of collaboration in all related industries, including agricultural product processing and port shipping logistics, as well as in emerging sectors such as the digital economy and new energy.

“We are upgrading quality for the Malaysia-China "Two Countries, Twin Park" Initiative, we are fully leveraging this platform, capitalising on the strength of location, logistics and resources, and build on the industrial cooperation within the park to jointly expand, strengthen and elevate the twin parks.

“We look forward to strengthen the cooperation with Malaysia, especially with all the representatives from businesses and the (related) associations," he said.

Meanwhile, National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) president Datuk Seri N. Gobalakrishnan said Guangxi continues to advance in strengthening resources, industrial development and policy innovations, while Malaysia offers strong advantages in regional markets, technological applications and industrial ecosystems.

“We look forward to seeing more Guangxi-based companies use Malaysia as a strategic gateway into ASEAN, integrating into international value chains, whether in technology collaborations, project investment or industry matching.

“I firmly believe that closer ties between enterprises in Malaysia and China will help build a more competitive industrial ecosystem and open a new chapter of mutual benefit and shared growth," he said.

The China (Guangxi) Key Industries Promotion Conference 2025, organised by the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Zhuang Autonomous Region with SME Association of Malaysia (SME Malaysia), aimed to gather industry leaders from both Guangxi and Malaysia to promote China-Guangxi-Malaysia cooperation in the manufacturing of new materials, new energy and high-end equipment.

SME Malaysia national president Dr Chin Chee Seong said that under the backdrop of the rapid development of global industry, Guangxi and Malaysia are building a high level of technology and market capacity.

"Through this summit, we look forward to building a high-efficiency communication network, promote the deep integration of the industry chain, and promote business cooperation between companies as well as the mutual benefit of both parties," he said.
