THREE KILLED, THREE SERIOUSLY INJURED IN THREE-VEHICLE CRASH ON SENAI-DESARU EXPRESSWAY

KOTA TINGGI, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- Two people were killed and three others seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash at KM56 of the Senai-Desaru Expressway here today.

Bandar Penawar Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Hazmi Zulkafli said they received an emergency call at 11.25 am and sent eight firefighters and a fire engine to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the operations team found that the crash involved three vehicles, two of which were on fire.

“There were five individuals involved, all of whom were removed from the vehicles by members of the public before the firefighters arrived. The team then extinguished the blaze,” he said in a statement.

He said the two vehicles that caught fire were a Toyota Fortuner carrying an adult male who was seriously injured, and a Volkswagen carrying four individuals — two of whom died and two others were seriously injured.

“All fatalities and serious injuries were due to the crash, not the fire. It is understood that the Toyota Fortuner collided with the Volkswagen before both vehicles caught fire. A nearby Honda CR-V unsuccessfully tried to avoid the collision, but all four occupants escaped unharmed,” he said.

Kota Tinggi district police chief Supt Yusof Othman confirmed the incident and said further investigations are underway.

“The bodies of the two victims have been sent to Kota Tinggi Hospital for post-mortem, while the three seriously injured victims were taken to Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Bahru for further treatment,” he said.
