PDRM VIEWS SERIOUSLY FAILURE BY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS, TEACHERS TO REPORT SAFETY INCIDENTS

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) takes a serious view of any attempt by school administrators or teachers to resolve matters involving student safety, without the involvement of the police or relevant authorities.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said that such actions should not have occurred.

“Any incident involving student safety must be reported immediately. Do not attempt to conceal the facts or incidents, but instead share information, so that such issues can be addressed at an early stage.

“This is also to ensure that parents are aware of the actual situation occurring in their children’s schools,” he told reporters after launching the Anti-Bullying Campaign, here, today.

Also present were Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Education director-general Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad.

Meanwhile, Mohd Khalid gave his assurance that schools nationwide remain safe, despite several recent criminal cases which have drawn public attention.

He said that, although there have been reports of bullying, as well as physical and sexual violence, the number of such cases remains small compared with the total number of educational institutions, students, and teachers.

“PDRM continuously strives to ensure that schools remain safe and secure for all parties.

“We also work closely with schools to ensure the safety of students, but we cannot rule out the possibility that exposure to social media may influence the actions of certain individuals or students,” he said.

In this regard, Mohd Khalid also advised parents to monitor their children’s use of smartphones and social media, to prevent them from being influenced by negative elements.

He also agreed with Mohd Azam’s proposal for police patrol cars to conduct regular night patrols at boarding schools.

“This initiative will be expanded, and I have instructed all state and district police chiefs to continue taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of students in boarding schools. Such efforts will also help instil a sense of security among students,” he said.
