PANTAI PENUNJUK DROWNING: WOMAN AND NIECE LAID TO REST

JITRA, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- The remains of a woman and her niece, who drowned at Pantai Penunjuk in Kijal, Terengganu yesterday, were laid to rest at the Kg Hijrah Muslim Cemetery here today.

The victim’s husband, Syafiq Azril Mohd Nasis, 40, said Nor Hidayah Zakaria, 39, and her niece, Urshia Medina Noor Didi Hilmi, 12, were buried at about 6 pm.

Syafiq Azril recalled that he, his late wife and their 13-year-old son were on a holiday with other family members in Cherating, Pahang, prior to the tragedy.

“My late wife really wanted to visit Pantai Penunjuk because she said the beach was so beautiful,” he told Bernama tonight.

According to media reports, a family outing at Pantai Penunjuk ended in tragedy when a woman and her niece drowned, while five others were nearly swept away by strong waves.

Kemaman district police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said in the 4.15 pm incident, the 12-year-old girl who was found unconscious was taken to the Kijal Health Clinic, but was pronounced dead at 5.23 pm.

Nor Hidayah, who was also unconscious when found, was rushed to the Kemaman Hospital Emergency Unit before being pronounced dead at 5.42 pm.
