NIBONG TEBAL, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Police managed to bust a burglary gang with the arrest of five individuals, including a woman, during a break-in at Eco Meadows, Bukit Tambun here early Thursday morning.
Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said security guards at the housing area realised that a burglary was in progress at 3 am when they viewed closed circuit television footage at the guardhouse showing two men acting suspiciously.
"Two men had entered several houses in the area and the security guards on duty immediately went to a police station to lodge a police report.
"Acting on the report, police from Bukit Tambun police station rushed to the scene and managed to arrest a man. Further investigation led the police to arrest another four suspects, including a woman,” he said in a statement tonight.
The police also seized a Toyota Avanza and a Honda Civic Efi, three motorcycles, five mobile phones and various housebreaking equipment during the arrests of the five suspects, 21 to 47, believed to be responsible for 28 burglary cases with losses of over RM100,000 in South Seberang Perai, Central Seberang Perai and North Seberang Perai since the middle of this year.
“Their modus operandi is to target luxury and gated houses by walking in and using small chisels to break in through the main door,” Azizee said, adding that the suspects have been remanded for further investigation.
