BATU PAHAT, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Seven passengers escaped with minor injuries after the express bus they were travelling in caught fire following a collision with a lorry late last night at KM78.7 of the northbound North-South Expressway (PLUS).

Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station (JBPM) operations commander, senior fire officer II Mohd Nazrul Yusri Mohd Yusof, said the emergency call about the accident was received at 11.17 pm.

"Upon arrival at the scene at 11.35 pm, it was confirmed that a Hino express bus had caught fire after colliding with a five-tonne Isuzu lorry.

"There were seven male victims, including the bus driver, aged between 23 and 48. All sustained minor injuries and had already exited the vehicle before the fire brigade arrived. The 35-year-old lorry driver was uninjured," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Nazrul said the fire was fully brought under control by 12.13 am and the operation was concluded soon after.

Fourteen personnel from the Ayer Hitam and Kluang Fire and Rescue Stations were involved in the operation, along with two Fire Rescue Tenders and two Emergency Medical Rescue Services units.
