TUMPAT, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- A construction worker was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today in connection with the death of his wife's cousin last Friday.
Hamizi Hamzah, 45, nodded, but no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
He is charged with the murder of Mohd Shuhairi Hasim, 46, at 11.20 pm at a house in Kampung Kok Bedollah, on Oct 24.
The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides for the death penalty or imprisonment for up to 40 years and 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nazuha Ismail, while the accused was unrepresented.
The court set Jan 28 next year for mention.
In the same court, he pleaded guilty to self-administration of methamphetamine at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department office last Saturday (Oct 25).
The charge, under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years or both upon conviction.
Magistrate Wan Ashrul Afhan Mohamad Azmi set the same date for submission of the pathology and chemistry reports.
